And So Information technology Goes is a 2014 American romantic one-act drama picture directed past Rob Reiner and written by Marking Andrus. The film, which stars Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton and Sterling Jerins, was released on July 25, 2014. It received mostly negative reviews from critics, and performed modestly at the box office. The film was the second collaboration between Reiner and Douglas, after The American President (1995).

Plot [edit]

Oren Little (Douglas), a realtor by trade, develops self-absorption, turning his back on his neighbors and shunning the notion of kindness to others. After his wife dies, part of his self-absorption is having no patience for children, not even his ain now-developed estranged son. His next-door neighbor, Leah (Keaton), whose own married man has also died, never had any children of her own, which leads her to throw her soul and her tears into reviving a singing career that had stagnated.

One mean solar day, Oren'due south estranged son Luke of a sudden leaves his begetter in charge of his own ten-year-old daughter Sarah (Sterling Jerins), a granddaughter whom Oren never knew existed. When Luke drops Sarah off at his home, needing his father to take intendance of her, neither Oren nor Leah, each of whom are alone souls, have any reason to doubtable that Sarah's involvement with their lives will enable them to heal their emotional wounds.

Filming began in June 2013 in Connecticut.[4] Shooting as well took place in California and Greater Manchester.

On December 17, 2013, it was announced that Marc Shaiman had composed the music for the movie.[5]

The outset trailer for the picture was released on May ix, 2014.[6]

Released on July 25, 2014, the moving-picture show earned $4,642,329 in its opening weekend. Over its ten-week run, And So Information technology Goes earned a domestic gross of $xv,160,801 and foreign gross of $10,151,586, for a total box-office of $25,312,387,[7] against a production budget of $18,000,000, not including marketing costs.[2]

And So Information technology Goes received negative reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes it has an approving rating of 18% based on ninety reviews with the consensus: "And And then Information technology Goes aims for comedy, only with two talented actors stuck in a half-hearted effort from a once-mighty filmmaker, it ends in unintentional tragedy".[8] On Metacritic it has a weighted average score of 38 out 100 based on 31 reviews, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews".[9] Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave the picture a grade B+ on scale of A to F.[ten]

Film critic Leonard Maltin gave the pic a positive review, proverb the moving-picture show "offers juicy leading roles to stars Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton."[11] Christy Lemire of Roger Ebert.com also commended the caliber of Douglas' and Keaton'southward performances, simply gave the film one.5 stars for its storyline, maxim: "Nil hither is a spoiler. The upshot is evident from the affiche lone".[12] A Washington Post review credits "the motion-picture show's most alive moments" to Keaton, who channels her Annie Hall character in both her wardrobe and her singing jazz ballads in a local pub.[13] While The Guardian review is happy to see "retirement-age characters" being featured in a moving picture, it criticizes the "banal" plot, proverb: "the story construction is so fake and and then plodding".[14] Flick critic Richard Corliss also gave the motion-picture show a negative review, saying: "And So It Goes may impact the frayed heartstrings of some older viewers, but it's pretty bad — the failed attempt to Heimlich a venerable moving-picture show genre."[fifteen]
